1985, Harare, Zimbabwe. Mugabe is leading a new African vision, Thriller is shredding the charts and Radio Gaga is all we hear. In the dusty heat a small boy plays out the life and death adventures of a boy called Peter from a cold faraway story. But the Wolf is real.
Peter and The Wolf (and Me) explores memories, family mythology and childhood through the prisms of family and folk lore. This is a tale based on the life of a child in Africa. The show take place in two worlds: the first is the present where a story is told about a life of adventure, snakes, alcoholism and faith; the second is set in the classroom of a boy aged 8 and is about his obsession with the folk tale Peter and The Wolf. As the play develops the worlds merge as characters become interchangeable and metaphors for each other.
"Exactly the sort of show that makes my heart soar: lyrical storytelling which punches you in the stomach" - Corinne Furness (twitter)
