"Arise, black vengeance, from thy hollow cell! Yield up, O love, thy crown and hearted throne to tyrannous hate! Swell, bosom, with thy fraught, for t'is of aspics' tongues! I am your own forever."
The deeds of Shakepeare's most dastardly and devious villains are brought to life in this dynamic contemporary exploration of the darkest elements of The Bard's human creations. Set in Narrowmarsh psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane, the show fuses holophonic sound, film, dance and theatre to create an immersive journey through the minds, words and deeds of these characters. Working closely with Off The Record, a Bristol based charity that provides mental health support to young people, the show aims to debunk many of the unhelpful myths and preconceptions of mental ill-health. Starting in the cells at the old police station in The Island and journeying into The Station, the show is a gloriously dark collage of murder, torture, adultery and bad drama-therapy.
"It’s always a special experience to see Shakespeare on stage; this interpretation has taken me aback tonight. To hear the Bard’s words from young people was refreshing and their performance was fantastic." - Paul McGann, actor.
